Southern Province Governor Alphonse Munyentwari
The Southern Province Governor, Alphonse Munyantwali, has called upon local leaders to come up with strategies that aid the effecting of performance contracts.
The Governor was on a routine, one-day work visit to assess the 2013-2014 performance contracts progress.
“The development of Rwanda lies within our hands, and achieving performance contracts is the responsibility for each and every Rwandan”, said Governor Munyantwali.
His team keenly followed a presentation and grilled local leaders in Nyaruguru district on areas such as economy, good governance, social welfare and justice.
Since July Nyaruguru district has achieved 63 per cent of the performance contracts and indicators show that it has improved greatly as far realizing the district target goals is concerned.
“We have improved greatly regarding achieving performance contracts”, said Francois Habitegeka, Nyaruguru district Mayor.
In the just-concluded 2012-2013 performance contracts whose results came out in September, Nyaruguru came in the 18th position with 94 per cent on average out of Rwanda’s 30 districts.
In the previous three years of performance contracts, Nyaruguru ranked 29th, 28th and 26th respectively, scoring 59 marks, 75 marks, and 86 marks percent.
President Paul Kagame initiated the performance contracts in 2006, as a way of swifting the country’s development through acknowledging and rewarding best performing leaders.
