Rwanda’s Louise Mushikiwabo and Minister Fred Teevens sign the migration agreement in Kigali
Rwanda and the Ntherlands have entered into an agreement to help the two countries have mutual support in the field of migration and combating illegal migration between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Louise Mushikiwabo on behalf of the Rwanda government and State Secretary of security and justice and Minister for Migration of Netherlands, Fred Teevens on behalf of the Netherlands.
Speaking after the sighing, Minister Mushikiwabo commended the partnership between Rwanda and Netherlands, especially in justice sector.
“We appreciate the continually growing bilateral relationship between our two countries. Justice is a special sector in Rwanda given our tragic history. We have been seeking a balance between justice and reconciliation. The contribution of Netherlands government in rebuilding and reforming Rwandan justice sector has been very much meaningful to Rwandans,” she said.
Minister Mushikiwabo also stressed the need to keep working with Netherlands more in other sectors such as business, investment, trade.
In his remarks, Minister Teevens said that the Netherlands government appreciates the cooperation with Rwanda and vows to do more especially in migration field, “we did a lot together in justice field and I think we can also do more in migration field” said Teevens.
He also said that he appreciates the investment opportunities in Rwanda for Dutch companies and that they are looking forward for cooperation in other fields such as agricultures and trade.
Minister Fred Teevens who is on a three-day official visit, also visited Gisozi memorial center. Reading the message left, he said.
“It is very impressing and shocking to see what happened over here in Rwanda. Let us be sure that this never happen again in the world and in Rwanda. I will never forget what I saw”.
He had an opportunity to meet with other Rwandan officials including the Minister of Justice Johnston Busingye. While in Rwanda, Minister Teevens will visit Mpanga prison in Nyanza District, the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD) and the Nyamata Genocide Memorial.
