Residents of Mukindo sector in Gisagara district reveal that living in model villages has enabled them have security compared to life in risk zones.
Residents commend model village for its tangible impact on improving people’s lives.
One resident, Venant Misago highlighted. “Since we moved from high risk zones, besides, whenever they invaded a home, neighbours could not intervene because we lived far away from each other.”
Another resident Nyiramisigaro added that sometimes thieves could kill family members after robbing them, saying help could come when they are already gone due to the location they were in.
“Some thieves could even kill people after robbing them. But because of the risk zones we lived in, help could come when there is nothing much to rescue,” she said.
Moïse Ndungutse, executive secretary of Mukindo sector asserted that criminals found it easy to steal from residents in high risk zones because they were sure of taking off before help comes.
He added that not keeping money in the bank by residents in risk zones attracted thieves.
“Village settlement changed a lot because families live close to each other and take part in night patrols. Also, residents are sensitized on saving money in banks to prevent thieves and attain sustainable development,” said Ndungutse.
Mukindo is one of 13 sectors that make Gisagara district and neighbours with Mwumba and Nyamurenza commune in Ngozi province of Burundi.
