Secondary School leavers currently taking part in the National Civic Education Training (Itorero) Program have been urged to uphold Unity and Reconciliation, a campaign aiming at creating a better society.

The Gisagara mayor addressing the youth in Itorero
Gisagara District Mayor Léandre Karekezi was addresssing the youth recently during Itorero activities where he advised them to actively participate in the ‘Ndi Umunyarwanda’ initiative, a National Unity and Reconciliation program that also calls for patriotism amongst all Rwandans.
Karekezi added, ‘Ndi Umunyarwanda’ initiative aims at providing a wider room for Rwandans to discuss problems, share experiences and providing sustainable solutions.
The initiative helps Rwandans to understand their origin and meanings of tribes and clans, during the time of their ancestors and how colonialism distorted such vital elements, leading to the 1994 genocide against Tutsis; according to Mayor Karekezi
He asked the youth to work on promoting what unites them as Rwandans instead of what divides them stressing the need to promote Unity and Reconciliation which is essential in dealing with effects of the 1994 genocide against Tutsis.
On the other hand, the Secondary School leaving youth promised to fight for oneness and building the Nation together without considering their historical differences but rather, sticking to what makes them Rwandans. Most of the youth in the Itorero program were born after the genocide.
