President Kagame receives UK Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening- Kigali, 20 June 2013
Rwanda has been acclaimed over efficiency in managing and proper utilisation of aid given for social and economic development compared to other countries in the region.
The United Kingdom Secretary of State for International Development Justine Greening who has been on a two-day visit to assess the results of assistance that UK gives to Rwanda confirmed her satisfaction in the socio-economic progress Rwanda is making.
Ms Greening promised President Kagame that UK will continue to cooperate with the country in Development activities. “I would like to see my department pull in that sort of responsible investment that can help kick the start of economies and create jobs, and this is what we discussed with the President during our helpful, amicable and frank meeting around our relationship and what we are doing” Said Ms Greening
She further said that she agreed with President Kagame that both have done some important work and that it should continue, basing on joint principles of working; hoping that two countries will continue the work they have done in the past to drive economic growth.”
Justine Greening commended Rwanda’s economic development programmes while acknowledging that they help to drive responsible private investment which she believes are very important for many countries.
According to Rwanda’s Minister for Finance Claver Gatete, the Secretary of State exchanged views on the relationship between Rwanda and the UK and both countries have thought about the best way forward for better economic relationship
Britain had formerly withheld £21million of aid to Rwanda amid accusations based on UN report of experts that Rwanda was barking a DRC rebel group M23, allegations that were later found to be malicious, false and termed by the government of Rwanda as ‘baseless’
